A 26-year-old Arlington man died Tuesday night about an hour after telling a police officer who had pulled him over for a traffic violation that he had ingested crack cocaine. Robert D. Johnson was pronounced dead at John Peter Smith Hospital at 6:31 p.m. When Johnson was stopped in the 2600 block of Avenue H, he was "acting suspicious," said Sgt. Pedro Criado, a police spokesman. "The officer asked the suspect several times if he had ingested any substances," Criado said. "He finally admitted he had ingested a large amount of crack cocaine." The officer called for an ambulance. The cause and manner of death are pending, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner's office. - Deanna Boyd
