An 18-year-old University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee student was found dead in an east side duplex over the weekend, apparently from a lethal combination of prescription drugs and alcohol.

The woman was identified in a Milwaukee County medical examiner's report today as Ali Marie Raddatz, 18, a freshman in the Lubar School of Business at the university. Police said there is no foul play suspected in her death.

Raddatz, a 2008 honor graduate of Kettle Moraine High School, was found unresponsive on a couch in the 3000 block of N. Frederick Ave. about 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Friends had last seen her alive when they moved her from a bedroom into the living room but told investigators she never woke up when she was moved.

The student's mother, Kathleen Raddatz, said that had her daughter seen a friend in such trouble, she would have sought help.

"There were warning signs. She couldn't walk. She was not going to sleep it off. She was gurgling as a sign of overdosing, and nobody had the wherewithal (to help). These kids, somebody should have gotten her some help. Nobody did," Kathleen Raddatz said.

Friends told police that Ali Raddatz had taken prescription painkillers and was drinking raspberry rum in her dorm room Friday night before going with friends to another party at the N. Frederick Ave. duplex where she was found dead the next morning.

One friend, a 19-year-old woman, was arrested by Milwaukee police after officers found pills in her purse during the death investigation.

Kathleen Raddatz said her daughter had no history of medical problems or drug abuse, leaving "just a big question mark in our hearts right now."

She said her daughter was self-confident and positive about what she was doing. "I'm sure she thought she was in full control. She did whatever she did on Friday night and she wasn't," Kathleen Raddatz said. "As strong and brilliant and bright and popular as you can be, you can't cheat death. You think you can have a good time with this stuff and be safe. You're wrong.

"That's the bottom line for her. It's just such a waste."
