Residents at one apartment complex in central Bakersfield say something needs to be done about the violence in their area.

Joshua Nathaniel Turner, 20, died during a fight at the Emerald Glen Apartments early Sunday morning. This is just one of several incidents that have happened at the complex over the past few years.

When police arrived, they found Turner suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head, police said. He was taken to Kern Medical Center where he later died.

Neighbors heard arguing coming from inside the apartment prior to the shooting, investigators said.

Isabel Avina has lived at the apartment complex for nearly a year.

"We were here two months and that's when we saw a homicide," Avina said. "I'm the only one working, and with what I make, I can barley make the rent."

The apartment complex is across the street from Stella Hills Elementary School. Residents say the complex has been plagued by violence in the past.

No one was available at the Emerald Glen leasing office to comment on the latest incident.
