A single-vehicle crash today involving an unlicensed 14-year-old driver has killed him.

State Police responded to the crash today around 4:30 p.m. La. Highway 490 about four miles east of La. Highway 1.

The crash involved a 2002 Ford pickup driven by 14-year-old Kenneth Brossette of Lena. The Ford was westbound on La. 490 when Brossette passed another westbound vehicle.

When Brossette attempted to reenter the westbound lane of travel, he lost control and ran off the right side of the roadway. The pickup then began overturning and came to rest on its roof in the eastbound lane.

Brossette was wearing his seatbelt, but died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
