A motorcyclist who was hit by a truck while escorting a funeral procession has died.

Mark Garback, 47, died Thursday at Methodist Hospital, said Gene Ford, a spokesman for Clarian Health.

Garback was working as a funeral escort May 1 on South Meridian Street near Meridian School Road on the Far Southside. The motorcycle he was riding was struck by a pickup that had passed through the procession to make a left turn. He had suffered leg and head injuries and had been in an induced coma.

Garback, an expert motorcyclist, taught safety classes for new riders.
