Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the death of a former Gannon University student who died after being shot at his parents' home in West Sunbury, which is in Butler County.

Jesse Delach, 20, had been a software-engineering major at the school. He died at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday at a Pittsburgh hospital.

The director of the William F. Young Funeral Home said Delach died of an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Delach is survived by his parents, Linda and Stephen Delach, and his sisters, Aubrey and Devonne, according to Gannon University. The university said Delach withdrew from the school in the spring.

"The Gannon University community is deeply saddened by the loss of Jesse Delach. He was well-known and beloved on this campus," said Gannon spokeswoman Karla Mullenax Wludyga. "In this difficult time, Gannon is making available grief counselors to those who knew and loved Jesse."

The university offered its noon Mass on Wednesday in honor of Delach. The Young Funeral Home in West Sunbury is handling arrangements.
