Brittany Hollenbach, a University of Washington senior, was taken off life support Thursday. Hollenbach had been in critical condition after she was struck by a car while running across a crosswalk late Tuesday night in the University District.
Hollenbach, 22, was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority and a former Richland High School swimming champion. According to Seattle Police reports, Hollenbach ran into the path of a red 1995 Honda Civic on NE 50th Street after the light turned green. She was transported to Harborview with serious head injuries.
The driver of the Honda, a 20-year-old man, was questioned and released after police found no sign of drug or alcohol impairment, reported the UW newspaper The Daily.
A vigil for Hollenbach will be held Thursday at the Delta Delta Delta sorority from 7 to 9 p.m.
The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life is helping members of Hollenbach's sorority with the resources they need to cope with the tragedy.
