Police are searching for suspects after a 17-year-old girl was shot and killed outside a house party in Minneapolis.

Gunfire erupted near Humboldt Avenue North and 35th Avenue North just before midnight Friday, as people were leaving that party.

Police say Alisha Neeley of Minneapolis was shot in the neck and taken to North Memorial Hospital where she later died.

Friends and family gathered throughout the day on Saturday at the scene of the shooting. They brought balloons, flowers, stuffed animals and photos of Neeley, creating a memorial in her honor.

Alisha's only sister, Helena Neeley was there. She described her sister and said, "She was so pretty. She had so much potential."

She said Alisha was a student at Urban League Academy and had also attended MTS High School and North High School.

As for what happened to her sister Friday night, Helena said, "I heard two gangs were shooting at each other and she just happened to be in the middle. I don't really know what happened."

Helena wasn't with her, but their cousin Kayla Neeley was as Alisha collapsed.

Kayla Neeley said, "She was just laying there and she said, 'I'm hit.' She said, 'I'm hit.' That's the only thing. She started holding her chest."

Friends and family said they are unsure who is responsible for their sadness.

Helena Neeley said, "Oh my goodness, it doesn't matter who did it. I just wish that God gives them a second chance and they just change their lives. I don't want anybody to go to jail. I don't think it was her they were intentionally trying to hit. I think it was an accident and that they shouldn't keep shooting over this."

But police want to know who fired the shots. They believe there were 60 to 100 people at the party and someone knows who shot Alisha Neeley.

As a group of about 20 friends cried and hugged at the memorial Saturday, Kayla Neeley said, "The thing I miss the most is her smile."

Alisha would have turned 18 on March 14.

Through tears, Helena Neeley said, "We were going to have so much fun for her birthday in a few more weeks. She's gone."

She said they'll still celebrate, but sadly, without her.

Minneapolis Police currently have no suspects in custody and say they need the public's help in this case.
