Dale Allen Pokarney, 55, an Anchorage taxi driver, was killed in a vehicle crash Jan. 30, 2010, while driving his night shift.

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. March 2 at the Moose Lodge, 4211 Arctic Blvd.

Dale was born Sept. 21, 1954, in Great Falls, Mont., to Jean M. (Stephens) Pokarney and George F. Pokarney.

Dale grew up mostly in Glendale, Calif. He lived in Hawaii for several years after high school, and in Fresno, Walnut Creek and at Lake Tahoe, Calif., before moving to Alaska.

He loved Alaska and the outdoors lifestyle. He was an accomplished photographer, a miner, loved gadgets and was a NASCAR fan. He traveled to Daytona Beach, Fla., for the 500 and visited his mother in Alabama last year. He made several trips to visit his sister and brother over the years. He was always willing to help a friend.

He is survived by his mother, Jean (Pokarney) Martin; stepfather, Anthony Martin of Alabama; his father, George; sister, Kerry (Pokarney) Milbrodt and her husband Tim Milbrodt; nieces, Georgiana and Sarah; brother, Daniel Pokarney and niece Courtney Pokarney; aunt, Diane Pokarney; and brother, Dennis Pokarney of Hawaii; cousin, Christy (Pokarney) Michaels and her husband John of California; and cousin, Cherie Pokarney and uncle Jerry Pokarney, both of Lethbridge, Canada.
