A one-vehicle accident killed a 21-year-old woman in rural Manatee County early Sunday, after she lost control of her car and crashed into a tree.

Vanessa Guerrero, 21, of Arcadia, was killed in the accident on State Road 70, near the Yancey Road interchange, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Guerrero was driving east on SR70 near Yancey around 4 a.m. Sunday when her 2004 GMC sport-utility vehicle dropped onto the south shoulder of the road, troopers said. She tried to steer it back onto the road, but overcorrected and the SUV began to spin.

The spinning vehicle crossed the road, with the passenger side hitting a fence post and barbed-wire fence, before the driver side slammed into a tree. The SUV rolled onto its roof before finally coming to a stop.

Guerrero was wearing her seat belt, according to reports.
