A Newport News teen was one of two people killed in a crash early Saturday morning. The victims were identified as Jarin Sims, 17, of Newport News and George Woolley III, 53, of Williamsburg.

Sims was a senior at Menchville High School. His classmates can't believe he is gone.

"I'm not going to see him anymore," said Raheem Talley. "I just got memories."

Talley says Friday night he spoke with his friend, Jarin Sims on the phone. They talked about what they got for Christmas. Talley had no idea it would be the last time he would talk to his buddy.

"This morning I get this text and just like that he's gone," Talley added.

Newport News Police spokesperson Holly McPherson said dispatchers received several calls about the accident around 7:17 a.m. on Jefferson Avenue just north of Fort Eustis.

Officers arrived and found two vehicles with extensive front end damage in the area amid heavy fog, McPherson told WAVY.com. There was only one person in either vehicle she said.

Sims died near City Park. His parents say he was on his way to the park to do community service.

"He use to always talk about graduating and now that's all done," Talley said. "We can't even do it, because he's not going to be there."

The investigation revealed Sims was traveling northbound on Jefferson Avenue when he lost control of the vehicle, McPherson said in an email. Sims over-corrected the car which caused it to veer into the on-coming southbound lanes, hitting Woolley's vehicle head-on.

Woolley's family could not be reached for comment. At his listed address, there was no answer at the door.

McPherson said weather and fog were factors in the accident. She said Sims was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

"He just had a cheerful spirit," Talley said. "He would make you laugh when you are down. He was always smiling no matter what."
