Plain City man was killed in a three-vehicle crash last night in Madison County.

The crash occurred at 8:32 p.m. on Lily Chapel-Georgesville Road about 2 miles southwest of West Jefferson, said Sgt. Rod Moser of the West Jefferson Post of the State Highway Patrol.

Michael D. Gram, 26, was on a small dirt bike, a 1987 Honda CR 250, which was being pulled by an all-terrain vehicle, a Yamaha Blaster, driven by Thomas E. Meade, 29, of West Jefferson, in an attempt to get the bike's engine to start, the patrol said.

The pair was westbound when they were hit from behind by a 2000 Ford pickup driven by Robert Hix, 54, of West Jefferson, the patrol said. All three vehicles then went off the right side of the road into a ditch.

Gram suffered a fatal injury on impact and was pronounced dead at the scene by Madison County Coroner James Kaehr.

Meade suffered serious injuries and was taken by Med Flight to OSU Medical Center where he was in critical condition this morning. Hix was not injured.

Neither the dirt bike nor the ATV had visible taillights, Moser said.

The crash remains under investigation.
