A 17-year-old boy died from head injuries Thursday afternoon after falling off a skateboard being pulled by a vehicle near northwest suburban McHenry earlier this week.

Alexander Baer, of the 1700 block of North Woodlawn Park Avenue in unincorporated McHenry, was pronounced dead at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge at 2:46 p.m., according to a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

An autopsy on Saturday found Baer died of craniocerebral injuries from a fall from a skateboard and his death was ruled an accident, the medical examiner's office said.

Baer was near his home Tuesday at 3:50 p.m. on a skateboard being pulled by some type of rope attached to a vehicle, according to a release from the McHenry County Sheriff's office.

Fire officials were initially dispatched on a report of a child being injured and took the teen to the hospital via a Flight For Life helicopter, police said.

McHenry County Sheriff's police are investigating the death but could not provide further information Saturday afternoon.

It remained unclear whether anyone would be charged in the incident or if any foul play is suspected.
