A house party in the north east part of town ends in bloodshed after a 17 year old girl is shot and killed during her friend's birthday celebration. Witnesses say it was all an accident.

Magdalena Chamol's daughter was looking forward to her 18th birthday and Saturday was supposed to be an unforgettable night. But she's now trying to figure out how everything could have gone so horribly wrong.

"I never thought this was going to happen," she said.

Chamol, who was not at home during the incident, says her daughter, Miley, told her uninvited guests began to arrive. So her 19 year old son, Nestor Portillo, grabbed a gun, went outside and fired a shot in the air to scare the crowd away. A witness who wished to remain anonymous says at that point the unimaginable occurred.

"When he came back inside to put the gun up, it just went off," said the witness.

The bullet went through the upstairs bedroom floor and down the ceiling, exactly where 17 year old Priscilla Castillo was standing.

"They thought she just passed out. By they touched her head and saw the blood," said Chamol.

Chamol says her daughter had been friends with Pricsilla since 5th grade and points out that the teenager had just given birth to a baby boy. According to Chamol, she didn't even know her son had a loaded weapon in the house. The 19 year old took off after the shooting but was later taken in for questioning.

Alexander Portillo was arrested and charged with murder with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm at a structure, unlawful possession of firearm and discharging firearm in a public place.
