Two young women from Miami were killed and a third was injured after their car slammed into a pole on Florida's Turnpike early Sunday, authorities said.

Driver Lorena Michelle Green, 21, and passenger Frances De La Caridad Santos, 19, died in the crash near the Kendall Drive exit, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Another passenger in the car, Jennifer Gulin, 21, was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center. She is expected to survive.

According to the Highway Patrol, the three were traveling at about 7 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Florida's Turnpike by Mile Marker 20 when Green lost control of the car and struck a support pole for an overhead sign.

The crash is under investigation.
