The Elyria Highway State Patrol is investigating a deadly accident that killed a woman who was sitting in the middle of the road.

Police say it happened at around 1:40 a.m. Sunday, on Island Road, just north of Cooley Road.

According to investigators, 21-year-old Michaelann Arnold, of North Olmsted, was heading south on Island Road when she stopped her 2010 Ford Focus in the middle of the roadway. Then for reasons unknown, she got out of her car -- which had no lights on -- and sat down in the middle of the road.

At that same time, a 2002 Ford Focus driven by 68-year-old Charles Keller, of Grafton, was also heading south on Island Road.

Troopers say, Keller didn't see the stopped car and struck it from behind.

Arnold was hit by both cars after the impact, as they spun off of the right side of the road and into the ditch.

She was taken to Elyria Memorial Hospital where she died from her injuries.

Keller suffered injuries to his leg. He was also taken to EMH, but was later treated and released.

The crash remains under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
