A South Carolina man has been identified as the driver in a crash that killed himself and another person early Saturday morning.
Daryl Vasconcellos, 28, of North Charleston, S.C., was killed when the Toyota Carolla he was driving north on Interstate 25 spun out of control and rolled twice. Vasconcellos was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, according to Trooper Nate Reid of the Colorado State Patrol.
Passenger Clark Carter, 20, of Colorado Springs, also died in the crash, troopers said. The other three passengers, Ryan Biddle and Ryan Mitchell-White, both 20, and 18-year-old Joshua Yates, all from Colorado Springs, were not injured.
The crash, near mile marker 128, was the third fatal wreck this week and the seventh this month in the Pikes Peak region.
On Thursday, a 58-year-old woman died when she crashed her motorcycle into a guard rail on I-25 near the Bijou Street exit. Her name has not been released.
On Friday, Jennifer Moss, 44, of Calhan, was killed when a minivan driven by Janet Decker, 47, of Simla, crashed into the back of her car as she slowed to make a turn off of U.S. 24.
The fatalities come about a week after the Colorado State Patrol issued a warning about a deadly start to the summer travel season. During a two-week enforcement period between May 24 and June 6, 23 people were killed in traffic crashes across the state.
