The Fort Worth teen shot in the head by two men burglarizing his home has died. According to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner website, 17-year-old Eric Forrester died at 10:18 a.m.

Fort Worth police are still searching for the burglars who were apparently surprised when the teen and his sister arrived at their home.
After the shooting Forrester was rushed to John Peter Smith Hospital and was in critical condition until Tuesday morning.

Forrester was a senior at Southwest High School. After learning of his death administrators with the Fort Worth ISD issued a statement that said, in part, "The Fort Worth ISD is saddened to learn of the tragic death of Southwest High School senior Eric Forrester. This young man's untimely and unnecessary death has deeply touched everyone in the District family."

Around 1:30 p.m. Monday, Forrester and his 21-year-old sister entered the back door of their home in the 6400 block of Poco Court. When they realized intruders were inside, the sister ran back out of the house and wasn't hurt, but moments later heard gunfire. When the young woman went back inside she found that her brother had been shot.

Neighbor Alvin Moore said Monday's burglary isn't the first in the area. "The house on the corner was robbed last year and the one around in front of me was robbed twice last year -- during the daytime, just like this one," he said.

Forrester was a member of the Southwest H.S. swim team, an honor student and an avid musician. Counselors were made available for students at the school.

"I can't think of why anyone would want to do anything like that to him," said Forrester's classmate, Branford Murrell. Ezequiel Medina, a junior at Southwest, sat beside Forrester in orchestra. "I want to hope that a miracle happens and he can get back on his feet," he said before learning of Forrester's death.

According to police, a neighbor saw a couple of men running away from the area of the house Monday afternoon.
