A car crash in western Pennsylvania claimed the life of a 20-year-old Deer Park woman after the driver fell asleep at the wheel and the vehicle struck a tree on Tuesday afternoon, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Kristin M. Green was a front-seat passenger in a westbound Volkswagen on the Pennsylvania Turnpike when the driver, 20-year-old Robert Felberbaum of Commack, failed to negotiate a curve at 4:05 p.m. in Caernarvon Township, 50 miles west of Philadelphia, police said.

Green was pronounced dead shortly later.

Two other passengers, 21-year-old Tracey Cowit of Syosset and Richard DiLorenzo, 21, of Levittown, were airlifted to Reading Hospital along with Felberbaum where all three are listed in critical condition.

Interstate 76 was closed for 90 minutes while rescue workers were on the scene.
