Police are seeking the public's help in finding a Cambridge man wanted for allegedly killing a Weymouth man in a Salem Street house, a half mile off I-93.
Investigators have obtained an arrest warrant for Christopher Toppi, 28, of Cambridge, charging him with one count of murder. The warrant came about 12 hours after police responded to 382 Salem St. at 3:30 a.m. today and found Brian Fahy, 28, dead, said Cara O'Brien, a spokeswoman for the Middlesex District Attorney's office, in a statement.
At the scene, neighbors, who declined to give their names out of fears for their safety, said they heard at least one shot sometime after 3 a.m., but O'Brien would not say how Fahy died.
"Upon arrival, EMS personnel located the victim, who was evidencing obvious signs of trauma," O'Brien said.
O'Brien said the killing did not appear to be random.
"The involved parties at the scene of the crime were known to each other, and the death appears to be as a result of a confrontation," she said.
State and local police have been on the scene all day, inside and outside of the three-story blue house on the corner of Salem Street and Sarragut Avenue, which is located in a densely mixed residential and commercial neighborhood, surrounded by three-deckers and other multifamily homes, as well as shops and gas stations.
Police were also looking at a light brown Ford F-150 pickup truck parked one house down with all four tires flat.
Leah Lucido, 37, lives across the street and said she was "shocked" to hear someone was dead across the street. She said the neighborhood was busy but peaceful.
"You would think there would be more problems on such a busy street, but there really aren't," Lucido said.
She said her 11 year-old daughter was very frightened by what happened.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy on Fahy.
