Police are investigating the discovery of a man located in recyclable material at Rumpke Recycling's Material Recovery Facility in St. Bernard.

At approximately 4:34 a.m. Wednesday, a Rumpke recycling truck delivered a load of cardboard to the Vine Street facility. An employee of the facility loaded a portion of the material onto a conveyor belt. Two Rumpke employees at the facility located the body of a male white in the material on the conveyor belt, immediately shut down operations, and notified local emergency services and law enforcement.

The individual was breathing when discovered and was transported by St. Bernard EMS to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

With the assistance of Rumpke, the Sheriff's Office and St. Bernard Police are investigating why the body was apparently in a dumpster that was loaded into a truck and transported to the recycling facility. Investigators are also attempting to determine the location of the dumpster.

The Hamilton County Coroner's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Until the Coroner's ruling, the death is being investigated as suspicious; however, there were no obvious signs of foul play at the scene.

The deceased has been identified as Matthew B. Harmeyer, 26, whose last known address in Oxford.

Harmeyer was reportedly observed on Saturday, March 14, in the area of Half Price Books, Colerain Avenue, Colerain Township.

Investigators are asking the public to report any sighting of Harmeyer over the past few days, or any other information regarding Harmeyer, to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, (513) 825-1500, or Crimestoppers, (513) 352-3040, or text Crimestoppers, (513) 352-3050.

Rumpke says it's safety team is on the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

"We appreciate the quick response of the emergency teams. Right now our main focus is providing the police departments with the assistance they need to complete the investigation. With this in mind, Rumpke is making every possible resource available to the Sheriff's department and police department to help them solve this case," said Larry Stone, corporate safety director.
