Police have arrested a 22-year-old Rock Hill man, Dytavis Hinton, after an armed robbery turned deadly last week outside a Cherry Road nightclub.

The shooting occurred Sept. 21 after Hinton and another suspect attempted to rob band members playing at The Money, Rock Hill Police Lt. Brad Redfearn said.

Amid gunfire, Hinton's accomplice, Demorrio Burris, was fatally shot, police say. A member of the band, Scott Thomas, 37, of Greenville, N.C., also was shot and is recovering.

Hinton, of 236 Rhea St., was arrested Thursday and charged with murder in Burris' death, according to the felony murder doctrine, said 16th Circuit Solicitor Kevin Brackett.

"When two or more individuals act together to commit an inherently dangerous felony, like an armed robbery, all the people involved are responsible for any death that may occur as a result of the crime, including the death of their co-conspirators," Brackett said.

Hinton was charged with attempted murder, burglary, attempted armed robbery and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, according to Rock Hill Police. Hinton was denied bond in Rock Hill and transferred to the Moss Justice Center in York, Redfearn said.

Members of a Greenville-based band called Parmalee were inside a recreational vehicle in The Money's parking lot after their performance around 1 a.m., according to Rock Hill Police. That's when they saw the suspects force their way into the RV. One of the men had a gun and demanded money.

Thomas, the band's drummer, drew a weapon and demanded the robbery suspects leave. Both sides started shooting and three people - Thomas, Hinton and Burris - were struck, Redfearn said. The suspects are accused of firing first, and the armed man on the RV fired back, according to police.
