Two teenage males are dead after a two-vehicle collision in northern Alberta on Monday afternoon.

RCMP were called to the collision on Highway 69 in front of the Clean Harbour Camp south of Fort McMurray around 4 p.m.

The teenagers were travelling west in a car when it lost control and drifted into the shoulder of the eastbound lane. It was then hit by a pickup travelling east, RCMP said.

The teenagers were taken to hospital where they were later pronounced dead.

They have been identified by RCMP as Neil Bursey, 18, and Corey Chartrand, 16, both of Fort McMurray.

The driver and sole occupant of the pickup was also taken to hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and later released.

RCMP believe a combination of speed and poor road conditions contributed to the crash. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor.
