As friends and family members laid 16-year-old Kelsey Carter to rest Tuesday, the investigation continues into her death.

Carter was shot and killed Dec. 11.

The King County Sheriff's Office is trying to figure out how she was shot and if someone should be held responsible. A Sheriff's Office spokesperson said it's possible the shooting was accidental.

"I'm hurt and I'm angry," said Christy Doll, Carter's mother.

Doll wants the 25-year-old man who was dating her daughter charged with the murder.

Doll says her daughter ran away from home and dropped out of school in October.

Her mother says when she saw Carter smoking a cigarette at a home outside of Enumclaw on December 11, she called 911. But police were told the girl was not in the home.

Two hours later, Carter was dead.

The owner of that home, who did not want his name published, said the shooting was accidental.

He said the couple was happy and in love.
He was upstairs when he heard the gunshot. When he ran into the basement, he saw the boyfriend.
According to the homeowner, the boyfriend said, "I think I shot Kelsey."

The Sheriff's Office spokesperson said it is not known how long the investigation will take. Once it is complete the county prosecutor will decide if anyone is charged.
