A woman was killed on the Withlacoochee River Saturday when she was apparently run over by the pontoon she had been riding on.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Carla D. Faul, 25, of Crystal River, was pronounced dead near the scene of the 4:30 p.m. incident.

Faul had been riding on the bow of a 20-foot-long pontoon being operated by Jeffrey Ryan Lamb, 31, of Wildwood, said FWC spokeswoman Karen Parker.

"This happened on the Withlacoochee River about four miles north of the State Road 44 bridge in Citrus County," Parker said. "The pontoon was being operated at a slow speed of about five to 10 miles per hour. She was on the bow and when she fell overboard, she went under the pontoon and was hit by the propeller blades of the outboard motor."

Faul was taken to the nearby Rutland Park Boat Ramp, where she was pronounced dead.

Parker said an investigation was continuing into the fatal incident on Monday.
