A 24-year-old Spartanburg man confessed Wednesday to fatally stabbing his former girlfriend, police said.

Robert Lee Jr., of 194 Miller Drive, Spartanburg, requested to speak with Spartanburg Public Safety investigators Wednesday, during which he detailed his account of the crime, said Capt. Randy Hardy.

Family members reported Rebecca Rosa missing after a relative dropped her off at her apartment early Saturday morning, and they weren't able to contact her in the following days. On Tuesday, family members discovered her body in a wooded area near Tibbs Drive, which is off Nazareth Road.

Tuesday night, Lee was taken into custody at an apartment complex on Bryant Road and later charged with murder.

"There was a physical altercation between him and Ms. Rosa, and as a result of that altercation, it ultimately led to her death," Hardy said.

On Wednesday, Spartanburg County Coroner's investigators positively identified the body found the previous day as that of the 21-year-old Rosa using dental records. She had been stabbed in the abdomen and back, which led to her death, according to a written statement from the coroner's office.

Hardy said the killing occurred Saturday morning after Lee went to Rosa's apartment.
