A teenage father in California stabbed his baby son to death before being killed by officers, authorities say.

A child abduction was reported in Palmdale Tuesday and an Amber Alert issued for the 5-month-old child and his father, Christopher Glass, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department told KTLA-TV.

Glass, 17, picked up the boy from a relative's home, drove to the child's mother's home and argued with her, authorities said. Then he drove off with his son and sent a text message to the mother, threatening to stab him.

After deputies began tailing Glass, they saw him make stabbing motions in his sport utility vehicle.

Glass crashed the SUV and ran away. Deputies rushed the baby to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Other deputies chasing Glass shot and killed him as he broke into a house, authorities said. Glass died at the scene. No deputies were injured.
