Metro detectives believe they are one step closer to closing a double homicide case. They just need to find a man they describe as "armed and dangerous."

People who live at the Barrington Apartments near 86th Street and Ditch Road on the north side said what happened July 18 doesn't happen in their neighborhood.

Inside a car parked at the Barrington Apartments, police said they found two women shot to death, 28-year-old Tonia Tinney and 26-year-old Alisha Lynn Preer. Their purses were left at the scene and there was no clear motive at the time. Detectives worked to piece the crime together.

Now, detective Jeff Breedlove with IMPD's homicide division he needs to find 24-year-old Ashley Jefferson.

Lt. Jeff Duhamell with IMPD said, "(Jefferson) is an acquaintance with the two victims. We've interviewed numerous individuals involved in this case and at this point, our investigation has shifted toward wanting to sit down and talk with him."

Police said there are now witnesses who fear for their lives. Detective Breedlove now warns that Jefferson may have played an active role in the double murder. He said Jefferson has threatened witnesses in the case, telling them not to talk to police or else.

Today, Alisha Lynn Preer's family refused interviews and Tinney's mother didn't return calls.

Preer and Tinney didn't live in the Barrington apartments and neighbors said they hadn't seen their car there before the day of the murders.

As for Ashley Jefferson, Detective Breedlove said he may be in Indianapolis or in Gary, Indiana. One thing they are sure of is that they want to question him.

If you know where he is call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS or submit a tip to Crime Stoppers on our Crime page. In both cases you can remain anonymous.
