A TV news journalist and a camerawoman came under attack from a large group of mourners as they attempted to film a report on the death of a 27-year-old man.

Chester Jackson was shot in the car park of an IHOP restaurant in Natoma, California on Sunday morning and his friends and family later set up an impromptu memorial near the crime scene.

But as Fox 40 newsman John Lobertini and his colleague Rebecca Little attempted to interview some of the bereaved yesterday afternoon, the news crew were subjected to a violent attack.

Footage of the incident shows acquaintances of Mr Jackson reacting furiously when Mr Lobertini and Ms Little tried to question them about the shooting and their memorial service.

'I don't have to f*****g talk to you, back off!' screams one woman before a large man strides forcefully towards Ms Little's camera and tries to push it away from the scene.
As Ms Little returns her lens to the developing scene, at least two of the women shout at the news crew before the footage suddenly blurs after the camerawoman was attacked.

KTXL Channel 40 news director Brandon Mercer said Ms Little had been filming the encounter when she was pulled to the ground by her hair and kicked in the face.

After the camera plunges towards the ground, the lens rocks sharply, which Mr Lobertini explained occurred when his colleague was kicked by one of the angry mourners.

'This is one of the hazards of the business, but we did not expect what we encountered here today,' Mr Lobertini commented after the incident.

Mr Lobertini said he had been punched in the face by one of the group while Ms Little sustained an injury to her cheek.

The group had been mourning the death of Chester Jackson, who was shot after a fight erupted in the IHOP restaurant and spilled out into the car park.

Police are looking for two men in their 20s and remained at the side of the Fox 40 news crew to allow them to file their report on the killing and the subsequent violence.
