Safety improvements continue at a College Station intersection where a fatal accident occurred last week.
This week Deputies with the Brazos County Sheriff's Office have been on hand to assist construction crews with improvements at Copperfield Drive and University Drive.
The Sheriff's Department was requested by the contractor to assist with lane closures and traffic as construction continues.
Last week 16-year-old Rudder High School student Lauren Landmark died when she pulled out into oncoming traffic at the intersection.
"They've been hanging wires to hang the signals and so it's just to give an increased presence out there to protect the workers and that's what the increased law enforcement has been," said Bob Colwell, TxDOT Public Information Officer.
The road improvements are currently 60 percent complete.
The $514,000 project is expected to be completed by June.
