Edward James Gayda Lim, son of television host Toni Rose Gayda, fell to his death from the balcony of the family home Friday morning.

Mandaluyong City police said it was an "alleged suicide" while a Twitter account of a friend of Lim described it "as a freak accident. He fell from the fourth floor veranda while smoking."

Lim jumped off the fourth floor of Pinnacle Residences on Wack Wack Road at about 4:45 a.m., according to a police report.

The victim was rushed to the Cardinal Santos Medical Center but was pronounced dead on arrival.

"The relative of the victim expressed belief that the victim indeed committed suicide and requested [us] not to pursue further investigation," the police report said.

According to Lim's Myspace account, he was 27 years old.

A close family friend, who spoke to the Inquirer on the condition of anonymity, said the family was in "shock."

Gayda, the daughter of actress and Philippine Red Cross ambassador Rosa Rosal, has another son named John.

James and John would sometimes escort their grandmother and mother to show biz events.

Lim's remains were cremated Friday. The same source said the wake at Santuario de San Jose in Greenhills started Friday at 9 p.m. and would be until Saturday only.
