Both speed and alcohol were factors in a crash that killed a man along Highway 52 North at the interchange with Interstate 40.
Police said Galdino Garcia Silva, 16, was driving when he lost control at 1:20 p.m. and crashed into a guardrail and concrete barrier.
The impact ejected passenger David Morga Medina, 18, who police said died at the scene.
Police said two other passengers were inside the car.
There was no word on if charges would be filed.
The crash blocked Highway 52 North for several hours.
The death is the eighth traffic fatality in Winston-Salem this year.
