A St. John man died following a Friday afternoon motorcycle accident, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Brett Bukowinski, 35, of the 9500 block of Genevieve Drive, was taken to Loyola University Medial Center in Illinois and later pronounced dead, according to the medical examiner's office.

St. John Police would not comment on the incident, and the location and details of the accident had not been officially disclosed as of Saturday afternoon.

But a witness who did not want to be identified said the accident occurred near Lake Central High School on U.S. 41.

The witness said at about 3:30 p.m. a young woman in a four-door silver Grand-Am cut across three lanes of traffic to make a left-hand turn, and while turning hit Bukowinski.

"She hit the the motorcycle, and he flew," the witness said. "It wasn't his fault. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time."

The witness said she and about seven others stopped to help a semiconsious Bukowinski and see if the car's driver was OK.

She said the driver appeared to be fine, and someone held Burkowinski's hand until an ambulance came.

It was not clear whether he had been wearing a helmet, she said.

"From what I saw, he didn't even have his shoes on because of how hard the impact was," she said.
