University of Kansas student Hallie Steele died Thursday after collapsing during a concert inside a Kansas City club.

Steele's father, Ken, told NBC Action News she went to a concert at the Beaumont Club located at 4050 Pennsylvania in the Westport district of Kansas City with friends. She slipped on the wet floor and hit her head hard on the ground.

She said she was OK, but then minutes later, she collapsed.

Paramedics were called around 1 a.m. Thursday to the club. Emergency crews treated Steele on the scene, but then she died on the way to the hospital.

Beaumont Club officials said the club had a medical team the night of the concert and worked closely with paramedics when they arrived.

They said they always try to create a safe and secure environment. Employees are saddened by what happened.

Sgt. Stacey Graves with the Kansas City Police Department said her death is not being investigated as a homicide.

University of Kansas Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little issued the following statement Thursday afternoon regarding Steele's death:

"On behalf of the KU community, I offer deepest condolences to the family and friends of Hallie Steele. Our thoughts are with them at this time of loss."

Steele, of Lenexa, was to enter her second year in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in the fall.
