A 15-year-old Salt Lake City girl has died after a sink hole opened up in the road ahead of the car in which she was a passenger. The sink hole left a patch of asphalt that forced Justine Barneck's father's SUV off the road. Her father, Michael Barneck, survived, but Justine Barneck died at the scene.

Another car actually went into the sink hole. The driver of that car, Helen Paulson (37), was also injured, but it's not clear how bad those injuries are or whether they are life-threatening.

Officials say a heavy storm in the area might have caused the sink hole to develop, since a clogged culvert washed out a section of the road. This could have weakened the road sufficiently for the sink hole to develop, although investigations are ongoing into the exact cause of the accident.
