Authorities have identified the North Carolina stepbrothers who were killed in a weekend boating accident at Sherman Reservoir in Central Nebraska.

The Lincoln Journal Star reports that 19-year-old Matthew McAlexander and 12-year-old Joshua Rowley died Sunday.

McAlexander was a volunteer firefighter with the Piney Grove Fire Department. His stepfather is Rowley's father. The stepbrothers were in Nebraska for a family gathering.

Authorities say the stepbrothers from Kernersville, N.C., died after the tube they were riding on was struck by a pontoon boat Sunday.

The 39-year-old pontoon boat driver from Wood River was arrested on suspicion of boating while drunk. He posted bond and was released Monday.

The reservoir is about 40 miles northwest of Grand Island in central Nebraska.
