A high school cheerleader has died after collapsing on the sideline during a football game between rival Los Angeles schools.
Los Angeles Unified School District spokesman Tom Waldman says the student was briefly revived after passing out Friday night at Fremont High School. She was rushed to a hospital where she died about three hours later.
Waldman says the girl, a student at Washington Prep High School, apparently suffered cardiac arrest.
The game between Fremont and Washington Prep stopped in the fourth quarter as coaches and trainers ran to help the girl. Bystanders performed CPR while waiting for paramedics to arrive.
School officials did not release the girl's name. Tributes from fellow students and family members on Facebook and Twitter identified her as 16-year-old Angela Gettis.
