The sheriff's department said no foul play was suspected in the drowning at Lake Wabaunsee of Deland Dean Bretton, 26. His body was recovered about 8:40 a.m. Monday near the lake's dam, about 300 yards from where he was last seen.

Deputies reported they were called to the lake at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday on a report of a drowning, and found the person thought to have drowned was safely on shore.

But people from another group then approached deputies to report the disappearance of Bretton.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office dive team and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office boat and crew helped recover Bretton's body. The death was being investigated by the Wabaunsee County Sheriff's Office and the Eskridge city marshal.
