Family and friends gathered to retrace the last steps of the teen who died after being shot near Milwaukee Area Technical College's West Allis campus.

Wednesday evening 17-year-old Darnell Kendricks' loved ones allowed CBS 58 to follow them as they erected a makeshift memorial in the parking lot where he collapsed.

Police said around 5:30pm Tuesday, Kendricks was part of a group who met to fight at McKinley Park on south 72nd Street. Instead of fists someone pulled out a gun and according to Kendricks' family he was shot five times at close range.

He ran for help about a block and a half away from the park and collapsed on MATC's campus but later died at the hospital.

Witnesses told CBS 58 the fight was gang related but Kendricks' loved ones said he was not the one in a gang. They said he went to the park to help a friend and try to resolve the fight without violence.

Kendricks planned to attend MATC to become a certified nursing assistant.

West Allis police said they are looking for a known suspect from Milwaukee who is 18.
