A Berks County man is now facing charges after police say he accidently shot his girlfriend while he was high on synthetic drugs. The incident happened back on May 22nd, along the 500 block of Godfrey Street in Tulpehocken Township. State police say David Lee Peters Jr., 32, was showing his girlfriend, Janel Keeney, 26, a gun when it went off and a bullet hit Keeney in the head.

Peters had been drinking beer and using synthetic marijuana throughout the day, according to state police reports. Peters brought the pistol into the living room and cleared the chamber, but forgot that the loaded magazine was still in the gun. Investigators say that the gun discharged as he was handing it to his girlfriend. Keeney was hit in the head and died instantly.

Peters is facing multiple charges including involuntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment.

State police investigated the incident along with the Berks County District Attorney.
