Travis Lee Groenewold, 31, of Green Lake, Wis., passed away this past weekend at his northern retreat near Elcho, Wis.

Travis was born on March 12, 1980, the son of Jim and Lois Kok Groenewold, joining his brother, Ryan.

The Groenewold family enjoyed camping and both of the boys learned to ski on Green Lake. Travis attended Central Wisconsin Christian Schools and he enjoyed sports, especially soccer.

He graduated from Central Wisconsin Christian High School in 1998.

For one year, Travis attended Marian College in Fond du Lac, where he also enjoyed playing soccer.

Travis proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1999 to 2003. He was stationed at Whidbey Island in Oak Harbor, Wash., and also in Guam. He sailed on the ship USNS Concord. For seven months the ship was deployed to the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

While in the Navy, Travis studied for his college degree and he graduated from Chapman University in Orange, Calif. in 2003, with a bachelor's degree in organization leadership.

Travis briefly worked at Quikrete Cement in Sussex, Wis. and at Power Packaging, Inc. in Rosendale, Wis. Travis was employed at Oshkosh Corporation since 2005 as a service and warranty manager for the FHTV Program.

On Aug. 18, 2007, Travis married Annie Wegenke in Montello, Wis. They lived in Waupun until they purchased a home near Green Lake, in 2010.

Travis and Annie's son, Corbin Mark, was born on Dec. 28, 2009.

Travis loved the outdoors and traveling. Travis and Annie purchased a cabin on Lower Post Lake in Elcho, Wis. in 2008. Their happiest memories were the times spent up north. The lake was Travis's "Heaven on earth."

Travis is survived by his wife of four years, Annie; his son of 22 months, Corbin; his parents, Jim and Lois Groenewold of Fox Lake; his brother, Ryan (Sarah) Groenewold of Horicon; niece and nephew, Reegan and Brady Groenewold of Horicon; his grandmothers, Alice Redeker of Waupun and Marie Kok of Corsica, S.D.; numerous aunts, uncles, great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

SERVICES: A memorial service will be held on Monday, Nov. 14, 2011 at 6 p.m. at First Christian Reformed Church in Waupun. The Rev. Craig Van Hill will officiate.

VISITATION: Family and friends may call on the family on Monday at the church from 4 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 6 p.m.
