An autopsy on the body of University of Rhode Island (URI) baseball player Joseph Ciancola has failed to determine a cause of death. The 20-year-old collapsed and died at a preseason session on October 24th.
It's reported that Joseph Ciancola did not seem ill before he collapsed, and had no known pre-existing medical problems that could explain his death. He was rushed to hospital but died three days later.
More tests are now due to be performed on Joseph Ciancola's body ahead of a funeral service at the weekend. His death has led to more calls for young athletes to be screened for hidden medical conditions that could be exposed by physical activity.
