A 19-year-old woman died when her vehicle was hit by a train in Harrodsburg on Saturday morning.
Sophia Ammons, 19, of Harrodsburg, was driving a 1991 GMC Jimmy east on Bohon Road when the train hit the vehicle as it was crossing the tracks at about 9:30 a.m., said Mercer County Deputy Coroner Chuck Bugg.
He said there is no barricade at that intersection, and the sun apparently prevented Ammons from seeing the flashing lights indicating that a train was coming.
"The train was right there on her," Bugg said.
He said Ammons was the only person in the vehicle.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Ransdell Funeral Chapel in Harrodsburg, he said.
