The body of a 14-year-old Arizona girl who got caught in the undertow of a water gate in the Lake Mead National Recreational Area has been recovered, officials said.

Authorities brought in heavy equipment from a hardware store in Mesquite, Nev. to create a temporary dam to recover the body of Alma Rosa Lujan, the Mohave County Sheriff's Office in Arizona said.

About 5 p.m. Thursday, Alma , from the northwest Arizona community of Scenic, was swimming with friends in the Virgin River of the Lake Mead area, and got wedged into a small water current that led to the other side of the dam, officials said.

The Beaver Dam Fire Department attempted to rescue Lujan, but were unsuccessful given the strong undertow, officials said.
