College Station firefighters discovered the bodies of two Texas A&M students in a vehicle that was lying in a ditch on the side of George Bush Drive West shortly before 4 a.m. on Saturday morning.

The firefighters were returning from a call when they saw the vehicle's lights shining from the ditch on the righthand side of the road near Barbara Bush Drive, police said.

The driver of the vehicle, 20-year-old Luca Bonasera of College Station, and the passenger, 19-year-old Jade Marie Vasquez of Bryan, were already dead when they were found by the firefighters.

Detectives and members of the crash reconstruction team continued to investigate the incident on Saturday evening. They said they believe that the students had been traveling east on the road when Bonasera lost control, causing the vehicle to hit a curb and land in the deep ditch. Investigators were not sure if the car had rolled during the accident.

In the Texas A&M directory Bonasera is listed as a sophomore economics major in College Station, and Vasquez is listed as a sophomore maritime-administration major at the university's Galveston campus.

Police said that both students were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
