The site of a fatal rollover in Olivehurst on Saturday still is littered with car parts. And refuse from previous accidents on the same stretch of Feather River Boulevard is in evidence.

"It's a fairly unforgiving area for accidents," said Lt. Damon Gil of the Yuba County Sheriff's Department. "It's a stretch where you have to be very careful."

Rachael Lynn Gertz, 27, of Plumas Lake, was driving a 2002 Honda Accord north, south of Myrna Avenue, at 7:50 p.m. when the car — according to a press release from the California Highway Patrol — veered to the right.

The car left the road and did a nose-dive into a drainage canal, ejecting Gertz, who was not wearing her seat belt.

She died in the crash.

Gil said that S-turns in that section of Feather River Boulevard, just north of a 55-mile-per-hour stretch, combine for a troublesome spot.

"And there's a large ditch on the side of the road too," he said of the canal where Gertz landed.

Walking, driving and parking on the shoulder all are dangerous along this block, according to James Morrison, 63, whose home lies directly across the street from the site of Saturday's accident.

"They (cars and trucks) are on you in 2 seconds because they're driving so fast through here," he says. "One wound up in my yard once, and almost went in my house."
