A soldier with ties to Greensboro has died in Afghanistan.
U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Justin Cameron Marquez, 25, of Aberdeen died of a gunshot wound while on patrol Saturday, said Marquez's aunt, Debbie Cameron Lambeth.
Marquez, an Army Special Forces soldier stationed in Fort Bragg, was killed by small-arms fire in Chak district, Wardak Province, Afghanistan.
His mother grew up in Greensboro, and his grandmother and two aunts still live here.
