Michigan State Police have identified the 25-year-old man who died Thursday night in a fiery crash on U.S. 12 in northeastern Hillsdale County.

Teri Michael Pollington of Hillsdale was heading west near Waldron Road at about 10:25 p.m. when he lost control, the Michigan State Police reported. The vehicle he drove went off the road, into a ditch and crashed into a telephone pole and a tree before catching fire, according to a state police statement.

The only occupant in the vehicle, he was pronounced dead at the crash site.

State police did not earlier release his name because investigators had to confirm the victim's identity because of the effect of the fire on the man's body.

The Hillsdale County medical examiner's office authorized the release of the man's identity, according to a Monday morning statement.
