A single vehicle car accident Monday morning left one person dead and sent two small children to the hospital.

Witnesses said the sport utility vehicle was heading south on Highway 45 South just past Norton Hill when the vehicle jerked to the left and flipped over several times across the median.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Kristin Rushing, 25, of Henderson, was the driver of the vehicle and was killed in the crash.

People on the scene pulled two children still strapped to their car seats out of the vehicle because they smelled smoke. The driver was found close to the vehicle in the weeds.

Witnesses said the five month old boy had some scratches and bruises. The other two year old girl complained to witnesses that she was hurting. Witnesses said they believe the car seats saved the children's lives.

"It tears at my heart its just heartbreaking," said witness Melissa Newton. "That could've been me you never know and I would not want my kids to live without me that's just sad."

Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
