Joshua Micheal Copus, 19, of Rockford passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2013. Joshua was a proud graduate of Jefferson High School and was continuing his education at Kishwaukee College's Automotive program. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching, as well as playing, baseball, bowling and wrestling. His favorite sports team was the Chicago White Sox. Some of the best times spent were fishing with his grandpa. Joshua was a kind soul, always willing to lend a hand to others, a wonderful son, brother, grandson and friend. His loving and caring personality will remain in the hearts of all who loved him dearly. He is survived by parents, Doug and Vicki Copus of Rockford and Maggie Copus of Phoenix, Ariz.; brothers, Christopher (Jenelle) Benson and Brady Starling; sister, Caitlyn (Chris Simross) Benson; grandparents, Dale Copus and Kenneth (Chris) Benson; aunts, Suzanne (Bill) Hageman, Cindy (Kevin) Lachey and Carisa (Dave) Krikke; uncle, Brian (Angela) DeJong; great-aunt, Sue (Jim) Kelso. He is predeceased by grandmother, Arlene N. Copus; and great-aunt and -uncle, Cheryl "Chub" (Rich) Hinerichsen. Celebration of Life from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at Forest Hills Lodge, 1601 West Lane Road, Loves Park, with memorial vigil at 6 p.m. Cremation rites will be private. Christenson Funeral Home & Crematory (rockfordfunerals.com) is assisting with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
